FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
The Tallinn University of Technology is happy to announce the 8th annual internationally open robotics competition
ROBOTEX 2008
About the event
Robotex is the biggest robotics competition in Estonia, organised annually since 2001 by the Tallinn University of Technology, the University of Tartu and the Estonian Information Technology College.
The target group of Robotex are students of technical fields and technology enthusiasts. The goal is to give them experience in developing and building mechatronical systems, interdisciplinary projects and to promote teamwork. A wider goal is to popularize information technology and technical education among the youth.
What makes Robotex unique compared to other robotics competitions is that every year, the task the robots have to perform is different. For example, some of the assignments of previous years have included climbing a vertical rope; playing volleyball; flipping cans; marking mines etc.
Robotex 2008
The event will take place on the 5th of December in the campus of the Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia. The event can also be observed in real time online on www.video.ttu.ee
The total contest prize fund is over 6000 euros!
The task of Robotex 2008 is called Room Cleaning, in which the objective is to collect items (socks and empty cans) from a rectangular field and move them to the specified drop-off areas. The fully autonomous robot must orientate on the field, avoiding obstacles and be able to distinguish different objects. The time limit for this task is 3 minutes.
All information about the event and the rules are available on the official website: www.robotex.ee
