Hello, EESTECers!
We are proud to announce, once again, a great opportunity to visit Serbia and Novi Sad, have the best workshop yet, go exploring through the nature of the region, get virtually no sleep and greatest parties ever! To put it simply ? welcome to the "Play with CELL" workshop! The event will be packed with interesting lectures and practical work about Cell architecture ? new, high-end microprocessor used in modern PlayStation 3 video game console; exploring the nature of the region, sightseeing and wild partying! The event will last from October 13th to 21st, and we invite 20 people from all over EESTEC world to come and enjoy this great workshop. Lectures will give you necessary knowledge to understand Cell processor architecture and how it works "under the hood". Through practical work on real equipment you will be able to "play" with these processors and see what they can be used for. Apart from the working sessions, we will provide you with non-stop partying. Each night there will be a great party with lots of people and a great atmosphere. Once again, we plan to have a great weekend somewhere in the nature, tours through nature and sights of the region, a visit to the capital etc. Be prepared to a both exhausting and thrilling week this autumn in Novi Sad. You can apply by filling in the application form on the website of the workshop www.eestec-ns.org.yu/pwcell . Rule "first comes first served" will not be applied. For any questions, feel free to contact CP of LC Novi Sad on cp@eestec-ns.org.yu. The deadline for application is September 15th.
There's just one thing left ? a warm welcome for all of you, here, in Novi Sad!!! :)
WORKSHOP
The Cell Broadband Engine ? or Cell as it is more commonly known ? is a microprocessor designed to bridge the gap between conventional desktop processors and other, dedicated, graphic-processors. With its eight cores (synergistic processing elements, SPEs), operating at frequencies of 3.2 GHz or more, Cell processors are a modern achievement used for blade servers, console video games, HDTV home cinema, super computing etc. Its first commercial application was in PlayStation 3 consoles, that were introduced in Europe not before March 2007. Therefore, we can consider Cell as high-end, modern product that is yet to be used in many devices. Both PPE and SPEs are programmable in C/C++ using a common API provided by libraries.
In 2000, Sony Computer Entertainment, Toshiba Corporation, and IBM formed an alliance ("STI") to design and manufacture the processor. In March 2007 IBM announced that the 65 nm version of Cell BE is in production. Workshop on Cell broadband engine architecture will be held at Novi Sad Institute for Information Technologies (MicronasNIT), and will consist of 12 classes (2 blocks of lectures and 2 blocks of practical work, 3 classes per block). Lectures and exercises will be given by experienced professors and assistants, enrolled in many practical, commercial projects. MicronasNIT is a research and development house that specializes in offering high quality development services, consulting services, and reference designs in the area of consumer electronics, multimedia and communications.

Settled in the southern part of the Pannonian valley, on the left bank of the river Danube near the pleasant mountain Fruska Gora, Novi Sad is a city built by measure of man. NIGHT LIFE
Known for its cultural happenings, Novi Sad is also recognisable for its night life. For every person, there is a place in the city where the good time is guaranteed. Just try to imagine one street where the party never ends ? exactly, in Lazina street in the city center, the party lasts whole night. There are also a lot of clubs in the center, at the Petrovaradin fortress and all around the city; where music varies in all kinds. One of the most attractive music festivals around Europe EXIT is being held in Novi Sad each July. It is now in its 7th year running; which makes it the biggest party in the region. In LC Novi Sad there is already a tradition of organising great parties, with good atmosphere and lots of people. After all, each ordinary meeting of members of LC Novi Sad ends up as a party in our favourite cafe for gathering, where it is also not unusual to finish with Karaoke competitions.
