*Name*: JAZZ DO IT! 2011. (Music festival)
*Organizing LC*: Niš
*Time*: 09 - 15. 08. 2011.
*Deadline to apply*: 8th of July 2011.
*Number of participants*: 15
*Application *on eestec.net <http://www.eestec.net/>
We are proud to say that our event “JAZZ DO IT!” is becoming tradition.
Since it was great last year, we have decided to do it again! That's why
we are inviting you to join us at the biggest jazz event in Southern and
Eastern Europe "Nišville jazz festival <http://www.nisville.com/>". Together
we will enjoy the good jazz sound accompanied with great atmosphere that
only EESTEC exchange can provide. Organized in the medieval
and visited by more than *100.000 people* only last year, Nišville hosted
some of the biggest stars of jazz music: Candy Dulfer, Grace Kelly Band,
Incognito, Solomon Burke, Benny Golson, De Phazz, Roy Hargrove... This year
there is no exception because Steve Hans Dulfer, Sly&Robbie, Mungo Jerry,
Tom Harrell, Rick Margitza and 50 other bands on 5 different stages will
jazz it up for us!
Regular price for this festival is about 50 Euros, but as our guest you
are getting it for *free* :)
And you will also learn some things about acoustics and making music.
But, that’s not all. The City of Niš has great cultural and historical
heritage. Serbia is birthplace of 17 Roman emperors, and one of the most
important persons in European history, emperor Constantine the
was born in Niš (roman name *NAISSUS*) in 272AD.
You will also visit a Fortress of
where “Nišville jazz festival” takes place. The fortress exists at this
place for more than 2000 years, and has layers from different historical
periods. That’s because Niš is on the road that connects Europe with Middle
East (in roman times this road was called VIA MILITARIS), so many
civilizations passed here and they left some trace in the fortress. It’s in
this condition since XVII century, and now it’s one of the best preserved
fortifications of Ottoman style in Europe.
In Niš exists one unique monument in the world, Skull
which was built from skulls of the warriors who died in the Čegar battle in
the 1809. You will also visit a Čegar
battle took place.
We’ll show you one relaxing place, Niška
Banja<http://www.nistourism.org.rs/health-oasis.html>spa which has
radioactive healing water and we’ll go swimming there with a
lot of EESTEC spirit!
And if you think that we only have history, you’re wrong, because Niš is
known as town where you can have a lot of fun. We have centuries old
hedonist legacy! Are you brave enough to try our traditional drink *rakija*?
And the best BBQ in the world including pljeskavica will help your body to
work well with all that alcohol. There won’t be a single moment that you’ll
be hungry, because Serbians like good food in big quantities. All that you
will be able to taste in a traditional ambient at the special night in *
kafana*. If you don’t know what *merak* is (that word has no translation to
other languages), you will learn here!
So the crazy summer cocktail with... traditional Serbian drinks and food…
plenty of great music… nice town… a lot of EESTEC spirit… Mix all that in
a summer temperature and share it with good orgaNICEers.
What are you waiting for?
*JAZZ DO IT! 2011.*

So, for all of you EESTECers out there that want to make a good living with
web development: here is a list of *life-changing* people you will be able
to personally meet at Plone Sauna Sprint in Tampere. People you will be able
to contact anytime later in your life when you will be at a point in your
career when good contacts count most:
Wyn Williams, Finland
Originally from the UK, he co-owns Devaus Oy (sponsor!), a company
specializing in extreme networking solutions. Setting up a stable conference
network for 500 geeks or building wifi networks for military troops on the
battlefield, this guy can provide. If you are into networks you'll get
endless hours of good material out of him. BTW, he will personally make sure
we have good internet connection in the sauna.
Florian Friesdorf, Germany
A former EESTEC International Board member he is now a Python/Plone
freelancer. He's got tons of experience with Gentoo, LDAP and Python in
general. If you like the freelancing way of life, he's the guy to talk to.
Martijn Pieters, Norway
Martijn is a veteran Zope developer with a long (10+ years) history in web
applications, and a background at companies like Zope Corporation and Pareto
(yes, he has written parts of Zope itself). The amount of web development
knowledge he has is just amazing. He's also a member of the Plone 5
framework team, a small team of web gurus deciding how Plone should move
forward in the future. Check out the environment he works in:
Mikko Ohtamma, Finland
Author of Plone Developer Manual, this year's Plone Help Channel Superstar,
co-owner of mFabrik (sponsor!). His specialties are mobile sites, usability,
mobile applications, Python, Plone, video streaming and social networking.
After sponsoring last year's Sauna Sprint he hired one of the participants
immediately after the event.
Domen Kozar, Slovenia
Still a student, but already a valued Python and Plone developer. Loves
Gentoo. And networking. And basically anything related. Also knows Pylons
Robert Nidereiter, Austria
Owner of Squarewave Computing, part of the Blue Dinamics Alliance. He worked
on big projects like qt.nokia.com. He has a deep understanding of how to
make web applications fast and effective.
Kai Lautaportti, Finland
Chief Technology Officer at HexagonIT (sponsor!) a leading Plone solutions
provider in Helsinki. Came from a start-up background so he knows a lot
about different exciting technologies. After sponsoring last year's Sauna
Sprint he hired two participants who still do consulting work for HexagonIT.
Nejc Zupan, Slovenia
Co-owns NiteoWeb Ltd., a Slovenian company specializing in Plone services.
Also co-founded a "web of trust"-like startup a few years ago which recently
got a solid 6-digit investment. He can go on and on about entrepreneurship
and having maximum fun while working. Still an LC Ljubljana member, albeit
not so active any more.
Joni Orponen, Finland
Recently moved from archaic Unix systems and Fortran gigs to Python and
Plone. Don't get him started on Unix/Linux quirks, you're good until the
morning. Currently works in the gaming industry. A former LC Helsinki
Last year, 3 IT Team members got hired shortly after Sauna Sprint by it's
sponsors. Be one of them this year!

As summer is approaching, we are all making some amazing plans, some of
which include travelling to other LCs participating in events :)
Last month was the first that Board worked together and got our first
results! Most significant event for the month was Handover Board Meeting
(HOBOM) in Athens during their workshop. We had an amazing time in Athens
and we had the chance to develop our annual plans as a Board. In the
meantime, talking with participants of the workshop and attending all great
things that organisers prepared was a big motivation for us :). We would
like to send our biggest thanks to LC Athens for their invaluable help to
hold this essential meeting.
Therefore, upcoming month is going to be when that all plans will start
developing. We will start working in many different things with several
teams and bodies and of course include each and every EESTEC member,
especially through EESTEC forum in eestec.net.
Summing up, this was an introduction month. Assessing the work and team
spirit developed during this month, we can promise you one thing: This year
is going to be AMAZING for whole EESTEC and will bring EESTEC to a new level
Till next month, enjoy your time and summer! Have fun :)
