Heipähei!
Tässä viimeisiä välittämiäni kutsuja. LC Helsinki nimittäin valitsi uuden
boardin, joka ilmoitettaneen piakkoin tänne listallekin. Tämän vuoden Contact
person on Henri Haukkovaara.
LC Madrid järjestää maaliskuussa (2.3.-9.3.) workshopin, jonka aihe liippaa
lähelle BIOlaisten opintoja (ainakin näin oletan :P). Kyseessä siis lääketieteen
ja biotieteen uudet teknologiat. Lue lisää alta.
Hakemusten DL on 10.2. ja ne lähetetään osoitteeseen helsinki(a)eestec.net

Hi EESTECers!
Everyone from LC Madrid welcome you to our international event E-Health
WorkShop in March 2008.
We have organized an exciting workshop regarding new technologies in
medicine and bio-engineering. These topics are very important nowadays
and we wish to take advantage of our University's leadership in both
fields. We want to find high-motivated EESTECers to pay-back our
sponsors the confidence they gave us.
And what about night-part? Actually I think most of you know one week in
Madrid has AT LEAST seven nights full of party and enjoyment. And for
those who don't know yet: what are you waiting for coming here and
discover by yourself?
I was near to forget (not really, xD) about the huge weekend surprise.
You'll have to come if you want to find out about it.
Now the hard part. Since we don't apply for EU grant, organizers have
made great efforts to find sponsors for the workshop. In previous events
we had problems with eestecers that showed a total lack of consideration
towards our work, sleeping during conferences with the sponsors and
university professors, which made us loose all credibility among them.
This time we won't tolerate anything similar. Joking apart, participants
will be warned and eventually expelled from the event if warnings are
disregarded. When there is party, we party, when there is work, we work
(and later we party ;D). Quoting Malcolm Reynolds in the movie Serenity:
"Don't push me, and i won't push you".
We'll have between 15 and 20 places for you. Although not the only
criterion, the order of applications will be highly considered
See you soon in Madrid

Hello girls and guys,
The holidays passed and I hope you had a great time!
Ready to talk about EESTEC Magazine now? :)
Second issue of EESTEC Magazine has been published in December 2007 and
it is my pleasure to tell you that it has been printed for the first
time. If you still haven't seen it, ask your LC representative on last
ECM for hard copy and it is, as the previous issues, available on
http://www.eestec.net/resources/magazine
<http://www.eestec.net/resources/magazine>
Big thanks to all the people who were involved in creation of this issue!
EESTEC Magazine is meant to be published four times a year but this year
it has been decided that there will be 3 issues in stead of 4 (third
will be double issue) due to lack of time and in order to have more
quality publication.
You all know that EESTEC Magazine is a publication made by EESTEC
members. That means that everyone of you is welcome to help on it's
creation. This year's Magazine Committee (LC Bucharest) would really
appreciate your help in terms of ideas for new magazine sections or an
article that would fit in one of existing sections and they are following:
1. Life of LCs: If you have attended one of the EESTEC events in last
months and you want to tell people how great time you had, how great
hosts you had and how many new stuff you have learned, here is the place
for that!
2. Academic: Articles that are related to our profession (Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science). Here you can write about professional
happenings on your faculty or in your region that you think might be
interesting for EESTECers.
3. Careers: This is part where experienced eestecers can share how
eestec involvement reflects their life or ways to improve yourself or
eestec (this is my definition of this section :)).
4. Culture: Here you have an opportunity to show the rest of Europe
things related to your culture that you find interesting for foreigners.
I am sure that all of you could think of something for this part so
don't be shy! Others would like know what you have to say on this topic!
*Very important note:* Every eestecer, no matter the position in the LC,
that is willing to write an article or has any idea regarding it is
welcome to contact magazine(a)eestec.net <mailto:magazine@eestec.net>.
If an idea crossed your mind and you are not sure weather it can be
included in Magazine or you know you can contribute in magazine
creation, don't hesitate to contact Magazine Committee at
magazine(a)eestec.net <mailto:magazine@eestec.net>.
Hugs from sunny Nis,
Aleksandra
P.S. Here are some parts from last issue of eestec magazine. For whole
articles and complete issue is on:

Job fair
"JobFair – Create your future!" became a well known brand in Serbia, and
is recognized as the biggest event of it's kind for technology students,
and as one of the biggest job fairs in Serbia in general. EESTEC LC
Belgrade is looking forward to sharing its experience and best practice
with the rest of EESTEC, as well as exchanging ideas with other LCs that
are organizing similar events. Both Serbian and English version of
official website can be found on www.jobfair.org.yu

Triangulos in Chile
The only think we knew was that we enjoyed ding something with out
computer graphics skills.
(...) Naturally we have not spent all our time on our Bachelor project.
We were, after all, in Chile and that time abroad had to be spent well
by getting to know the country. Chille is beautiful country.
BizBuzzit Seminar
This year the conference was about Internet marketing and how to make
money from Web portals. It was explained how important is the kind of
marketing for modern companies and modern industry is.
The topics were: Internet yellow pages, successful examples, e-business,
online branding, start-ups…
Lc of the Month - JLC Sarajevo
They are new, still a Junior LC, but yet very prospective! Why is that
so, you are wondering – because they are highly motivated,
well-organized; they have an admirable percentage of active people; they
are professional when needed, funny when they should be and always in a
good mood! And they are also active on the International level as Board
Assistants of Chairman, Internal and External Affairs!
How comes – so motivated, so professional and so young?! Well, it is
obvious that they have strong leaders; their board consists of five
members, now experienced EESTECers:Faris,Semir, Mirela, Ajla, Sanja.

Terve!
Ystävämme Tallinnassa järjestävät epävirallisen tapahtuman tammikuun 26.-27. pv.
Tapahtuma ilmeisestikin painottuu jonkin verran urheiluun ja muuhun
hauskanpitoon. Osallistujia on kutsuttu viereisistä maista. Tapahtumahan kestää
siis vain viikonlopun, eikä laivamatkat Tallinnaan ole kalliita ;) Paikalle
pitäisi saapua jo perjantaina 25. pv.

Hi Juuso and Otto
Long time no see and hear! :) Hope everything is fine and chill by you!
The reason I am writing this time is that we (Lapikud) are planning to
organise an non-official event here in Estonia some
50 km-s from Tallinn place called Valtu. We call the event as WinterDays
2008 and are planning WinterDays for one
weekend. We just inviting our friends from Latvia, Finland and Lithuania
to participate us.
Well the event is mainly about doing some sports, competing in teams,
having fun and some quality time together, awarding best
teams and having some party. The sport-centre we are going to spend the
weekend has a pool, gym, sports-hall, solarium, bar
and some other facilities in our service :)
What you think would you be interested in participating? The dates for
WinterDays are 26-27th of January 2008.
Basicly there are no major expences for you! Accommodation for one night
approx 6 EUR, food expences some euros and thats more-or-less it!
Of course our foreign friends should arrive on friday and we could do some
warm-up for weekend on Friday evening/night ;) And we would accommodate
you in homes or somewhere else :)
Please let me know about the interest amongst the members of Lc Helsinki!
Ps Till that moment I have heard that there are some Latvian girls that
are interested in participating and also one Indian boy who lives and
works and studdies in Helsinki right now (Varun).
Best Wishes,

Dear EESTECers,
From this month the Newsletter will be different, there will be two
versions, one text sent by e-mail, like so far, and the other one will
be with pictures. This month, the first HTML version was made by
Vladimir Delibasic, and our VC-IA Marija Jemuovic, we thank them for the
hard work. You see the Newsletter here:
http://galeb.etf.bg.ac.yu/~dv030439d/newsletter_dec07.html
I hope you will enjoy both Newsletters. Please send your comments, like
that we can keep the good things, and we will change what you will dislike.
Newsletter topics:
New Year's greeting
Board Change
Past Events
Local Events
Future Events
Hello all,
As the New Year here, on this last newsletter of 2007 and first in 2008,
we would like to greet you with the words from an EESTECer who managed
to express our feelings and wishes for the upcoming year in the best way:
Well dear EESTECer,
another year has come and gone. The holidays are here once again. We
hope you spend them with a smile on your face and a bounce in your step.
Don't worry about the future, for now; it's still a long way off. And
don't worry about the past, it is over and gone. Enjoy the here and now,
where ever it may be.
We wanted a nice, holidayish quote, but unfortunately those were all
sold out, so this will have to work:
May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back and
the sun upon your face and may the winds of destiny carry you aloft to
dance with the stars.
And smile please.
Thank you :)
Jure Forstneric
LC Ljubljana
Special thanks to Jure for his words
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's take a look at what happened in EESTEC last month:
Board Change
LC Ljubljana, LC Cosenza, LC Tampere, LC Krakow, LC Belgrade, LC
Trieste, LC Budapest and LC Aachen elected their new board members. We
want to thank the old board members for their hard and dedicated work
and want to wish good luck to the new ones. Keep up good work!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
EESTEC Slogan
In addition to board changes, new slogan of EESTEC was elected by EESTEC
International Board from 64 slogan ideas came from 14 different LCs.
Official EESTEC slogan will be "POWER YOUR FUTURE" which was proposed by
Elena Diaconescu from LC Bucharest and for Junior LCs Faro and Lisbon
who invented the name. Also a big thanks to the one's who came up with
many great proposals for EESTEC Slogan!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Past Events
There were four events in December and all of them were very
successfully organized and the participants had great time and they
learned a lot. We had Plone my Web in Skopje, traditional Niko-Event in
Aachen and Go Farming in Belgrade. LC Belgrade was more hard working and
they also organized second ECM which was also their second event in one
month.
*Go Farming!*
LC Belgrade organized the event "Go Farming" between 2 and 9 of December
2007 which dealt with new Internet technologies and Linux web server farms.
*Plone My Web * * **3rd edition***
For 9 days, 12 participants and 3 Slovenian lecturers were exploring the
secrets of Plone in Skopje, and were developing the NGEP (Next
Generation EESTEC Portal) www.eestec.net <http://www.eestec.net/>. The
mission was successfully completed, the work was done, participants are
now skilled in Plone, and very soon everyone will be able to check the
new updated site, along with the new draft-web sites for each LC and
Observer in EESTEC. We hope the next PloneMyWeb workshops will be as
successful as this one and the two previous ones in Ljubljana, and will
motivate people to join the EESTEC IT team.
* Niko-Meeting *
**Last month LC Aachen organized Niko-Meeting between 2 and 6 of
December 2007 which was another traditional event for EESTEC. This small
and nice exchange gave participants the chance to taste a Christmas
market atmosphere together when New Year is approaching instead of the
technical trainings that we have during workshops.
*EESTEC Chairpersons' Meeting 2007 *
LC Belgrade organized the second ECM between 10 and 16 of December 2007
which can be considered as one of the most important events of last
year. Chairpersons of all Local Committees were invited in order to be
trained, share experiences and contribute to the future development of
EESTEC.

Local Events
KONTEH07 - Novi Sad JobFair
EESTEC LC Novi Sad is very proud to be the organizer of KONTEH07 which
took place on Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad on 11th and 12th
December 2007. It is second time that LC Novi Sad was organizing this
event, with purpose of helping students of technical faculties to find a
job and companies to find best employees in this area. 15 companies from
region took participation. More than 600 students seeking for employment
have already left their CVs at the KONTEH website ( www.konteh.org
<http://www.konteh.org/> - unfortunately it is in Serbian only, but by
clicking on "Galerija" you can see the photos from the event :) The
event was well promoted among students and accompanied by presence of
the press. Coorganizer of the event was IEEE-ISBIR and we had 2 guests:
Yasemin Baser from Turkey and Andreas Koltes from Germany who held
presentation about ISBIR project during KONTEH. We had support of our
University, City Government and Government of Vojvodina. In LC Novi Sad
very first preparations for KONTEH started half a year ago; the
organizing committee was numbering 7 people; there were teams for FR,
PR, IT and logistics, each numbering more than 10 people; and the full
number of EESTECers from LC Novi Sad who helped this project to come
true is more than 60.

Dear fellow EESTECers!
LC Budapest is proud to announce the 8th BME International 24-hour
Programming Contest.
Please promote our event to you members and around the uni. We will send
you all some posters and i will ask you to place them out around. On our
next workshop you will feel the thanksgiving for your efforts :)!
About the Challenge24;
Challenge24 is back to give a chance to compare the skills of coders who
seek interesting problems in a prestigious contest.
The 8th BME International 24-hour Programming Contest is organized by
the Electrical Engineering Students’ Hungarian Association and the
Károly Simonyi College for Advanced Studies on the Budapest University
of Technology and Economics.
Teams of three can register until 17th Feburary, 2008 via the website of
the contest: http://www.challenge24.org. After this the first, on-line
round of the contest will take place at 24th February. The best thirty
teams will be invited to the 24-hour long final to BME, between 2-4 May,
2008.
Everybody will be allowed to compete with his own computer, some
technical support, food and drink will be supplied. There are no
restriction on the hardware, software or written materials, but the use
of any outside help is strictly prohibited.
Tasks will be created by PhD students of BME, so the contestants can
expect interesting and difficult problems to solve, like in the previous
years. To be successful on the contest, participants not only have to
write program code fast and precisely, but they need to be familiar with
topics of computer graphics, artificial intelligence, computer networks,
and of course good team work is important too.
The total value of awards exceeds 5,000 €, and the best team can also
take home the Challenge24 Cup.
Like the traditions of the contest, the organizers expect a lot of
foreign contestants to apply: in the finals of 2007 contestants arrived
from the United States, Austria, Netherlands, Poland, Latvia, Romania,
Sweden, Serbia, Ukraine and Hungary, and returned home with great
experience.
Further information about the contest, and the latest news are available
